  MCS SURVIVAL FACTS

1. When you are beginning to have a reaction to an environmental trigger, PAY ATTENTION TO THE MESSAGE FROM YOUR BODY! THE BEST TREATMENT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES IS AVOIDANCE

2. You must change your environment to a non-toxic one to survive. Create an "oasis" for yourself in your home (and if possible at work). Get rid of all toxics chemicals. Remember: AVOIDANCE of all toxic chemicals will help improve your life. You can order safe supplies from N.E.E.D.S.; and Nontoxic Home and Office has a list of safe consumer goods and places to order them.

3. Try to network and become involved with others with MCS. They will tell you where to buy things (Eg., local organic food sources), who to contact, etc. Also we must stick together to make this a safer place for us all to live.

4. Make sure that you seek professional treatment for your medical problems. There is no magic answer.

5. If you need to avoid fumes from gasoline, write to: State of Washington, Department of Licensing, Vehicles/Disability Plates, P.O. Box 9043, Olympia WA 98507-9043. They will send you a form for your doctor to sign. [MCS is in the WA State Handbook of Disabilities. Pople with MCS should request a Disability PlateLicensing form to take to their doctor to document they are disabled with MCS. Then the State will send those with the appropriate documentation a handicapped license plate. Those who are then disabled with gas fumes could request that the attendant pump their gas. ]

6. MCS is recognized and listed as a Disability in Washington State's Disability Handbook. If you need to apply for a handicapped parking permit, you may.

7. To get on the "Pesticide Sensitive Individuals" List call the Department of Agriculture (WA State) at 360 902-2040, P.O. Box 42560, Olympia, WA 98504-2460. If you are on the list, local pesticide companies must call you a day or two before they spray someone's yard near your house.

8. You must assume responsibility to educate yourself on the resources available to you. You will get better with your own efforts.

9. DO NOT FORGET: PAY ATTENTION TO THE MESSAGE YOUR BODY SENDS YOU WHEN EXPOSED TO A CHEMICAL OR OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL TRIGGER. AVOID THEM!
